What IS a Mommy Blogger?
A ‘Mommy blogger’ is a Mom who blogs, although not just necessarily about being a Mom. These Mommy bloggers write about raising their children, healthy living, favorite recipes and products they love.
The included infographic defines a Mommy blogger as “Women who have had at least one child in their household and have read or contributed to a blog in the past 30 days.” Based on this definition, there are almost 4 million Mommy bloggers in the US. You heard right, 4 million!
The Importance of Mommy Bloggers
- The $22 billion toy industry is certainly courting Mommy bloggers. Five years ago, toy companies handed out 98% of their pre-release samples to TV stations, newspapers and magazines. Today, almost 70% of those samples go to bloggers. Toy companies have found that Mommy bloggers can build veritable word of mouth buzz around their product, and they’ve taken advantage of it too. Spin Master, a Canadian toy maker, has a dedicated staffer whose only job is to reach out to bloggers.
- Retailer behemoth Walmart has partnered with two influential Mommy bloggers. As Rosalyn Carneiro, Walmart’s public relations manager puts it, “If we can get the influencers and bloggers with a lot of followers, who are able to change consumer habits, to start talking about us and to engage with them, it’s worth its weight.”
As you can see, Moms blog to communicate, provide advice and share their thoughts, positive or negative, on the products and services they use. If Moms are customers of your business, engage with them to gain insights and monitor what they’re saying about your company online.
